A Little About Debuts Jr. Theater
Debuts was founded in 1998 and to this day, strives to stimulate and encourage interest in the dramatic arts and enrich the youth by producing opportunities for theatrical involvement. Our goal is to instill concepts of commitment and discipline in youngsters while inspiring their appreciation of the distinctly American art form known as the Broadway musical.
The key to our program is to get the kids to understand what the collaborative process is all about. It's a fabulous opportunity because normally students don't get to do the big plays or be involved in the creative process. Not only will the children perform in their own production, but they too will serve as the design team, taking workshops in; Lighting, Costumes, Choreography, Set Design, Hair and Make-up, Directing and all the other aspects of a musical theater production. The kids will than execute their designs under the supervision of our staff her at Debuts.
Our goal is to teach the children to be open to the ideas of others, while being able to explain their own ideas. They will be responsible for the team's ability to meet deadlines and live up to agreements, leading to up to what will be a very successful production at the end of our program. We believe that the kids will not only have a blast performing their show but will learn valuable skills to use in their everyday life.

2010 Summer Show
Rosie and the characters from The Nutshell Library live on the same block on Avenue P in Brooklyn, New York. On a hot July Saturday, the children are bored and need something to do. Rosie imagines herself as a famous and talented star, and decides to produce an imaginary movie musical about her life and in particular the demise of her brother named Chicken Soup, to be called Did You Hear What Happened to Chicken Soup?

She gets her friends, the Nutshell Kids, to audition for a role in the film, but they begin to fight over casting. A thunderstorm forces the kids to move into the cellar. To keep the kids' attention, Rosie decides that they need to show the producer the movie's big finale number. She gets them all to close their eyes and imagine the producer inviting them to make her movie. Afterward, when the children go home, Rosie remains to dream of stardom in her big number.
